Canyon Heights Academy celebrated the Feast of All Saints on Monday, November 2 at the Campbell Community Center Heritage Theater. Parents, grandparents, faculty staff and guests were treated to a student parade of saints, a beautiful Mass and inspiring class presentations. Fr. Timothy Lyons, Chaplain at Canyon Heights, opened the Mass this way: “Welcome to heaven!”
“We love this day in our school because it is a visible reminder of how real our faith is,” said Fr. Timothy. “Kids who pray and celebrate the saints seem to know that our faith is very real.”
Following Mass, each class at Canyon Heights creates its own presentation. The audience enjoyed the recitation of the “Anyway” speech by Blessed Mother Teresa of Calcutta, poetry and songs like “Wonderful World” by Louis Armstrong. The Middle School presentations were both informative and humorous with 6th grade presenting scenes from the New Testament and 7th grade presenting the stories of St. Jude, St. Therese and Our Lady of Knock, Queen of Ireland.
The finale of the saint presentations is the 8th grade saint video. Creating a short movie within the time limits, including both video and audio elements, challenges each student to focus on the essential details in the life of a saint. This is quite difficult when considering the rich and varied nature of a saint’s life.
