Canyon Heights Academy held a very successful all-school Turkey Drive for the Knights of Columbus during Thanksgiving week. A total of 73 turkeys were collected for the Thanksgiving and Christmas food baskets distributed to needy families in the local parishes and/or Martha’s Kitchen.

Each year the Knights of Columbus contact Canyon Heights to determine interest in continuing the drive for another year. This year, the Service Team of the Student Leadership Council publicized, organized and ran the event.

On the Monday and Tuesday prior to Thanksgiving, students were available at drop-off along side the Knights of Columbus to collect the turkeys. They collected from the families as they
drove through the drop-off line and also from those walking their children. Working on the Turkey Drive was a volunteer service opportunity for our Middle School students who wanted additional service hours.

Canyon Heights Academy strives to develop compassionate leaders who have a deep understanding of social responsibility, the need to serve others and the skills to accomplish change in our world. This project nicely fulfills that purpose as it raises awareness about the needs of many local families and presents an opportunity for students to promote, organize and run an event for those in our community who are not fortunate enough to purchase their own Thanksgiving and Christmas meals.
